First time dealing with nits - help

My DD (4) has picked up nits from nursery, and I have got them and possibly DP and DS too (2). We treated with Full Marks 10 min solution on Monday and combed through, and did it again on Weds and yesterday.

The Nitty Gritty does not get them all out though - I have to pick through her dry hair to actually take the eggs out by hand ( have just spent an HOUR doing this this morning, and I am sure I have not got all of them). When I've tried using conditioner and then combing, the conditioner just seems to clog up the comb too much and get a bit foamy so I can't see what I'm getting out.
PLEASE can someone help with the most effective way of getting rid of these buggers! My hair is long and I am despairing of ever getting them out (seeing as poor DP has to do it). Should we consider using a real chemical buster on all of us? Hedrin or something?

Thank you in advance!

Aw, sympathies to you. I too have long hair but have found over time that the only thing that really works is cheap conditioner (thinner than good stuff) and a decent comb. Then patience and redoing every two to three days until they are gone.

Hedrin is OK but expensive (tho I think it might be free on prescription)

After each comb stroke I wipe it on a white towel specially for this and then you can see the nits and lice. Sad to say I find it quite satisfying

Make sure you do everyone as well or there will be a vicious circle of scratching

Thanks sweetcat ... I've just been reading elsewhere though that Hedrin does not kill the nits, only the lice. I've not seen any lice for a few days on DD's head - think have got all the buggers for the time being - so just need to get all the eggs out. So is it not worth using Hedrin? This is sooo confusing! Do I just stick with the wet combing ...

Can I join the club? Ds who is 1 has just been sent home from nursery with them. I'm mortified!
I'm going to try cheap tea tree shampoo and comb.
I had no idea they could get them so young!
