Any dentists around - gumboil question

DS2 gets a gum boil around every 6 months. They usually burst and clear themselves whilst toothbrushing, after a couple of days discomfort. We then use saltwash to help them heal.

When he had his first one, I wizzed him off to the dentist, who wanted to pull out the otherwise healthy tooth beneath it, to drain it, under a G.A. As he is mildly asthmatic I asked if we could wait a bit, and sure enough it cleared up.

Two questions: why does he keep getting them? Is it a nutrition deficiency, or stress related thing?

Second, should I be seeking further dental advice, since they are recurring?

Many thanks
