Have just discovered both dds have got head lice......the really big crawling version.
Strange as I've not long had dd1 (11) at the Doc's with an itchy scalp and there was no evidence of lice or eggs at this point.Have been treating both of them with a shampoo for dry scalps for the last week...and i had put it down to a cheap shampoo we'd been using.(hubbie and son seem to have not been affected but me and the girls have.)
Anyway,dd1 came home from high school today telling me the nits had been detected by some of her friends and low and behold there they were ... enormous insects!!!(she used to be prone to them but hasn't had them for years.)Looked in dd2's and she had the same. She's 9.Do I keep them both off school now until they're are nit-free?

have been advised to use Hedrin on them all.
Will this work straight away or does it take more than one go????

no, I would do a first treatment tonight, then send them in as normal tomorrow, unless school has a policy to the contrary. You are meant to do another load of Hedrin a week later. In between I would also condition and nitcomb.

Golly - I don't keep ds1 off - just treat, let the teacher know and off he goes.

i don't personally want to keep them off but dd1's school (high school) is keen for you not to send your kids in if they have them....!

the primary school will send them home if they see any too.

Dd1 has them, i had to tell the school she was off with a cold so i could treat her today. Dd1's school say its ok to send them in with them as so many of the children have them, this makes me angry as dd1 keeps getting them (3 times in the past month) and Hedrin does not come cheep.

Can I also recommend another treatment which is a plain fragrance free conditioner mixed with some drops of tea tree oil in. Much nicer than hedrin and you just comb and comb and comb it through. HL hate teatree (apparently) so once they've gone using this technique once a week might help keep them away
