Constant illnesses in 19month DD

Since the end of October DD has had 1 bug after the other. I don't think she has had more than 4 days gap between the end of symptoms from one thing & the onset of another. Mostly colds, a couple of which have been nasty & one she was given an inhaler to help her breathing as she was very wheezy and really struggling. She has also had 4 bouts of diahorrea lasting about a week each time. Also norovirus a few weeks ago, followed 2 days later by a nasty cold & now another upset tummy bug & high temp! I know toddlers do get sick alot especially in winter but this just seems excessive to me. Any advice, is this normal? We have started her on multivitamins on GP & HV advice as she is not a good eater. I feel that our GP already thinks I'm neurotic. But I only ring them if she has been ill for over a week and not improving, an obvioulsy not when it is just a cold. Feel like I'm keeping Calpol & Kleenex in business!

Hi - had same issue with my now 2 year old. It turned out all to do with teeth - every time a new tooth came - she got an awful cold - normally leading to a chest or ear infection and diahorrea. She also has an inhaler when required. Finally all the teeth have arrived and she is much better. However, she also suffered with the norovirus 2 weeks ago - diahorrea for 10 days. I think she now has a bit of a weakness.

Hope this helps - if not keep on at the GP.

She nearly has all her teeth now, so if it is down to that hopefully it won't be going on much longer! She's had antibiotics 3 times in her short little life, makes me feel awful for her! Hope your LO is better soon!

My daughter went through a period of having antibiotics every other week for about 8 weeks - I mentioned this to the doctor and he was a little suprised by how much had been given. So 3 lots sounds fairly ok - fingers crossed it is the teeth and it will be over soon.

Well GP has just given her antibiotics for a possible throat infection (she wasn't too keen on him having a look at her throat) but the cough and v high temp def suggest it! He said one thing after another is very common and not to worry! Fingers crossed the ABs work!
