Gooey ear

My son is 19 months old and for the last 5 days has what appears to be sticky goo coming out of his ear.
He?s showing no symptoms of pain but does poke his ear as if it is itchy. Is this earwax?
Oh he also had a cold just before this started.

If there's a lot of it and it keeps on coming, he might have an ear infection. I'd say that it's worth calling NHS Direct or taking him along to the minor illness nurse at you surgery (if you have one) just to get it checked out.

Does sound like an ear infection / perforated ear drum; my DD (16 months) has this a lot and generally once the eardrum bursts she is much happier as it takes the pressure off. It is usually fine to let it run its course, but if its the first time I'd run it past a GP. Although as long as there is no fever and he is happy they probably will not prescribe anything
