2 year old with temp. Straight to doctors?

My DS2 (2) has a temperature of 84.6, he's been on and off feverish since yesterday. I've given him calpol and settled him on the sofa. I also have a cold so I think it's that. My dad just rang and said 'Ooh take him to the doctors, in my day children with a temperature went straight to the doctors'.

Is he being an over cautious worrier or am I being a neglectful mother?

thats so kind of you but I bought gecko one of those of those for christmas

I didn't even take DCs to the doctor if they had a febrile convulsions unless the illness that caused it was not obvious or it was an infection that needed antibiotics.
