is this croup?

ds (4) started coughing friday and it sounds a bit like a seal, gp checked him friday and said that his chest was clear, he coughs and coughs is ok for ten mins then will cough again, i have a humidifier in his room and covered him vicks, his nose is really snotty and i can hear him swallowing it, his temp is ok and he has eaten well today, he sounds nasaly, is there anything more i can do

What did the GP say? Not sure if it is croup but my DD had a similar sounding cough, we found the humidifier on really high, plus keeping her room cool helped.

she said it was viral and to keep him dosed up on calpol, i hate it when he has a cold bless him i feel so helpless, i think its a humidifier its a bowl of water that has a green leaf type thing on top that twirls water around in it when its switched on, its like the vicks warm mist one, but no mist comes out, oh and you can only put cold water in it, i put some karvol drops in it earlier so i am hoping it helps

My humidifier spouts out cold steam, it looks like a cauldron. I don't know what you have got there, sorry. You can always wet a towel and pop it on a radiator, that humidfies a room quite well.

It is awful when they are poorly. My DS currently has a very tight chest and runny nose. I've got the humidifier on in his room at the moment and he too is on calpol (I don't give him ibuprofen as it makes him wheeze). I feel so helpless with him and DD when she is ill. You have my sympathy.
