14mo, being sick overnight only?

Hello Lovely MN'ers

My 14mo DD has been sick overnight in her cot for the past 3 nights. Seems to happen between 2am and 5am, and doesn't distress her at all! Once she's cleaned up she goes back to sleep easily.

She's a little whiney / clingy during the day and has very loose poo's (only one a day, and not quite bad enough to call diahorrea).

Her appetite isn't quite normal - seems to not eat one meal a day (dinner yesterday, lunch the day before) but the other meals are eaten normally. She's drinking fine too.

No other symptoms - no temp, rash etc.

Any suggestions what this is? I would have thought a tummy bug would make her sick all the time, not just once overnight? Do you think it's strange it happens 9 or more hours after she last ate?

Anyone else experience this?

Thanks addicted. No antibiotics recently, but did have her MMR 2 weeks ago. It doesn't sound like a side effect of MMR though.

Sounds very familiar.
Sunday teatime, DD2 16mths came suddenly down within half an hour of being normal with a 39er and a snotty nose then was sick in a halfhearted way.
Over the last two days she is ok and not been sick but clearly poleaxed. Temperature gone down to 37.5 without medecine and one sulphurous watery nappy a day. Seems to eat one meal with enthusiasm and leave the others too! Then last night sick twice again.
Her sister has had episodes of week long delayed overnight sick before - but not whilst staying as ill as dd2 looks.
She did a code brown in the bath on Sat night and I freaked out it is dysentry or something. Swine flu, pneumonia, gastroenteritis, sick bug..all of the above. I HATE it when they are properly ill like this. I can do it for a couple of days then the sleep deprivation kicks in and I start to google. I came on to find someone in same boat so I could get perspective. And there you go. Sounds like a reaction to gastric bug going round I think. Not that I will relax.

so glad I logged on here, getting worried about my daughter, shes 20 months and displaying similar symptons, started about 5 days ago, sick when she got up tho at first, then ok after a couple more sicks through the day. Then intermittently over next few days. I was violently sick myself on sunday, all day, completely wiped me out so I assumed it was the same thing. My daughter seemed to have recovered but then started again last night, eating more or less normally yesterday but really bad sickness in the night again. I've just come to the conclusion that I will have to keep her more or less off food today, just keep her to weak juice and see if tomorrow she getsback to normal. Like you Fothergill tho, the sleep deprivation is kicking in and I'm starting to feel slightly crazed!

We've had tummy bugs too, but heard an interesting thing from a friend whose dd was only being sick at night...temporary lactose intolerance caused by a bug: so if they have a big bottle of milk before bed that's why they're only throwing up at night. Could that be it?

MrsMong · 10/03/2010 11:40

Thanks everyone.

mrsbabookaloo - DD hasn't had bedtime milk for a couple of months now, so don't think it can be that.

I'm totally stumped as to what it could be, as usually bugs make kids sick as soon as they eat.

She's a bit grouchy today, needing a morning nap as well as a post lunch nap so is defo not quite right BUT there aren't any worrying symptoms - it's all just a bit weird!

Dd2 threw up lunch. She's just been lying down all day. No crazy temp though. Now dd1 complaining of being cold with hot forehead. I feel like crying! But at least she can tell what is wrong with her.
So. Onwards. Dd2 not really eaten since Sunday lunch. What would you give her tonight? She is drinking ok.
