2 yr old ill all the time

My 2 year old has been ill with colds, coughs, tonsilitis, ear infections etc almost constantly since he was about 6 months old.

He is otherwise healthy and developing fine, but he is just ill all the time with only a week in between.

Anyone else had this or any advice? I cant help thinking there must be something underlying. His immune system is obviously really weak.

My dd is 4 and was ill about 4 times in her first 2 years - totally different. And none of my friends toddlers are ill quite as much as ds - just the regular amount!

I had similar with DD, though not quite so often, GP reckons its quite normal, as at this age they are building up their immune system, so the more bugs they get, the better the immunity later, apparently the average

(according to GP) its 0nce or twice a month, but can be more if exposed all at once to more viruses in a short space of time, though if your worried no harm in talking with your GP, though as he's thriving otherwise, you will likely be told the same.

if he;s stressed for any reason, that can affect his immune system, so maybe try epsom salts & lavender oil in his bath, this will boost his magnesium, often low in a normal diet, which will help his body deal better with any stressors, lavender oil is safe for little ones, & will both calm him, & boost his immunity.

some foods, such as carrots can also boost your immune system, so give him lots of those too.

good luck

thanks rockinhippy.

yes thats what GP has told me on several occasions that its normal.

I googled today and lots of forums came up about allergies to wheat or dairy.

I dont think he's stressed but thanks for the tips. lavender a good idea. he eats loads of carrots and fruit and veg in general.

really worried for him, as the more ill he is the less his immune defenses are the the less he eats and the skinnier he gets etc etc

Glad to find someone in the same boat my son is 3 & has been ill on and off since last Nov we have about 4 days and then he just goes downhill, it's really tiring he dosen't sleep well or eat when not well. He started Nursery in Jan people keep saying that's why he not well all the time. Like the idea of lavender will give that a go.
