ds1 (just turned 4) has been a degree under all week, eating less than usual and with the tell tale sore patch he always gets on his face when he is brewing something...

i picked him up from pre-school at midday and he complained of feeling very cold. didn't touch his lunch and has been lying around all afternoon (both v v unlike him). his temp has shot up to 39.5 and rising and he is feeling extremely poorly now. have just given him ibuprofen. any ideas what this could be? i hate not knowing what it is.

aarrgh, we have just had the roughest winter of bug after bug (and ds2 hospitalised with many of his ). we have just had the longest period of good health since july, 2 whole weeks .

he is very prone to ear infections but i am pretty sure he doesn't have one now as it tends to follow a cold (which he doesn't have/hasn't had recently) and he always complains of earache as the pressure builds up.

any thoughts?

Tonsillitis? sounds like how my DS used to get before his operation. I could never believe how generally unwell he would get - flu like symptoms. We've had a bad run of illness for months too - its really hard I know.

thanks for replying helinher30s and sorry to hear about your bad run too. exhausting and worrying, isn't it? with the tonsillitis, would your ds complain of sore throat? mine says nothing else hurts other than the general achiness of having a high fever. having said that he had a bit of a dry cough earlier in the week...

Hmmm...you can get a fever without other symptoms- but then usually it lasts only a day or two, so if there's no change tomorrow, I would call the doctor.
It could be the beginning of something that will clarify itself soon- sometimes you get fever before other symptoms appear.

helinher30s you were right. took him to the gp today as he was even worse and he has tonsillitis. yet more antibiotics.
