OK two snot nosed small people home from school today. HELP!! What can I give them?? They are always getting colds! I'm over c & zinc- see no difference. Tried some bee propolis syrup with them, tasted nasty, they spat it out and did a combo gagging/acrobatic routine. What is sambucol like? Scared to give OTC syrups or anything like that after recalls! Thanks for advice you health saavy Mums!

Acidophilus powder? It is a probiotic which helps protect and strengthen the gut flora and thus the immune system. Can be hidden easily in milk, yogurt etc as its half a teaspoon of powder which is tasteless or strawberry flavour.

We swear by it, DD used to be on antibiotics all through the winter but this year we have gotten away with once dose so far (fingers crossed!!)

Honey and fresh juiced friut and veg twice a day has never failed with my ds.

He's coming up for 3yo and for the past year I've given him honey with porridge twice a day (breakfast & supper) and a glass of fruit juice made from a couple of carrots, apples, ginger and chunk of lemon.
He's started to get a cold 3 times during the past few months and they've disappeared within a day each time after upping the honey in particular.
I know it might sound a bit earth mother but the simplest and most natural things are often the most effective

Good luck with the little people!

McLovin probiotic idea AND honey- manuka honey- it has bee propolis in it! Aha! I take propolis myself and NEVER get sick, but in capsule form...getting some manuka today. Heard elderberry syrup is good too...

I heard Olive leaf extract is GREAT for colds....now getting into natural remedies. That over the counter stuff is nasty. Ever read the ingredients?

Always think it's good not to bother with paracetamol for colds ..inhibits natural immune reaction -- I guess you don't do the Calpol thing?
