swallowed a screw

My DS (3.3) has just swallowed a 1/2 inch flat ended screw, he is eating and drinking normally. Do I need to get him seen or just watch and wait??

Yes get him seen.

Something pointy? get him seen. The chances are nothing will be done, but just to be on the safe side............

get him seen so you know what to watch out for if it gets stuck. It will probably pass but you need to get advice. May be worth calling NHS direct

ds (4) swallowed a marble a cople of weeks ago and i worried myself silly until we had been down a&e even though i was told by many people it would just pass through! take him it will put your mind at rest and look forward to the poo surfing!!

my sister once ate a nail (luckily the pointy bit had been chopped off). She was taken to hospital and had X rays. Once they were satisfied she wasn't in danger and they let mother nature run its course. My mum had to check every BM to see if the nail had come out though. It did eventually and very shiney it was too

This reminds me of my little incident when I was around the same age - I swallowed a screw of some sort which I had found and was secretly chewing on and was too scared to tell my mum in case I got into trouble!! Spent the next week in a mild state of terror waiting for something awful to happen to me - obviously passed through me without me even noticing, thank goodness.

But yeah, I would definitely get him checked out to be on the safe side - when I told my mum years later she was livid I hadn't said anything!
