a foreskin question

Ds1 is 6 and last night apparently retracted his foreskin for the first time. He came to us and said his penis "kind of hurt". I thought maybe it just felt different and explained about foreskins and retractions and put some antibiotic ointment just to be on the safe side. This morning it looked the same and he said it hurt a little when he did a wee. I asked him if he could roll the foreskin back down as it seems rather, ummm, stuck and maybe swollen? He said no that hurt. So is it something to worry about?Sorry to seem so ignorant Dh is circimcised and doesn't know the answer.

if the skin wont go back down so he has the little loose bit hanging at the end - so it looks like an elephants trunk - i would think it's stuck and he needs a doctor.

all 3 of my boys' tools look like elphants' trunks with the skin hanging at the end. the only one who can expose part of the head is ds2 who is a bit over-interested in his willy at the mo, he is 3.

if the head part is stuck out, the circulation might get cut off? i'm not sure, but deffo think it should be going back and not hurting.

The head part is stuck out with the turtle neck under. No elephant's trunk though.

I may have phrased one bit badly. I don't think he's tried moving it down farther but it definitely wouldn't go back over the head. Is it supposed to once it's been retracted for the first time? I feel so embarrassed at not knowing all of this but google is no help and the first time we went for a physical they obviously didn't know much either as the nurse was about to try forcible retraction before I stopped her

I would get him to the gp - it may be paraphimosis

balanitis - We have instructions for antihistamines 3 x a day, warm soaks/compresses often, an antibiotic just to be on the safe side and doctor managed to get foreskin back over head. Ds2 looked at ds1 in the bath and proclaimed "Now his penis looks like mine again!"

So, only 3 1/2 hours after deciding it really might be something serious and I'm having some wine now...

Thanks to all who replied. You spurred me into action.

glad you got it sorted.

Thanks! We did a walk-in at the clinic and I know the receptionist wasn't too pleased but I gave her a concerned look and mentioned I was concerned about "strangulation". So, even though it was a 2 hour wait to see the dr we did get in! Not too bad really for a Friday night when they were shorthanded...
