Not a completely daft question! DS2 hurled copiously last night, 4 times (first attack). He slept pretty much all night and has woken much brighter today. He says he still has diarrhoea. Obviously I'm not about to whip up a 4 course meal for him but, should he want to eat at lunch time, what would you advise? Thin soup? Plain pasta? Avoid dairy?

Your experience please!

I'd start with a bit of toast or plain pasta and see how it goes. No dairy for now, unless he likes natural yogurt - an NHS Direct nurse I spoke to some years ago when I had a toddler recovering from bad sickness and diarrhoea recommended this and it certainly didn't seem to do any harm. You're probably not so concerned about your 8 year-old keeping up his milk intake though.

I agree - stick with plain toast, pasta or arrowroot biscuits which are settling on the tummy.
If he's not hungry then don't worry, as long as he's taking in plenty of water to rehydrate.
Hope he gets better soon.

Thanks everyone! He seems far more himself- watching back to back Garfield!

I will get some arrowroot and thin soup, then. As you say, dairy isn't nearly such an issue at his age.

Doesn't sound like noro virus if he's already feeling better.

I would starve him for 12 hours - but I am hard like that!
