Anyone's DS recently had a tummy bug? Is this normal?

Hello Ladies and Gents, DS (9.5 months) has what I thought was a normal tummy bug but now I'm concerned it's something more sinister. May just be being neurotic, what do you think? He started throwing up on Sunday afternoon and was sick about 4 times between then and bedtime. Slept through the night as normal and was not sick again. So the next day (Monday) I tentatively started giving him small amounts of bland food - toast, crackers etc. He was fine all day and by about 3pm when the rest of the family were having a late lunch, he was absolutely desperate for food so I gave him some of my pasta. Still he seemed fine, until about 4am the following day (over 12 hours later)when he brought everything up in his bed (oh the horror!!). So, Tuesday I spoke to the HV who thought I may have just rushed him with the food and suggested I went back to bland food and diluted milk and be led by him. Well, on Tues he was sick about 3 times - not after every bit of food/drink, but a bit randomly. Slept through again with no sick. I continued with the bland food yesterday (Weds) and he kept it all down fine - wasn't sick at all. In fact he seem really ravenous. But at 7 o'clock this morning he was sick in bed again bringing up all the food from yesterday, and he's also brought up some diluted formula I gave him. In between times he seems very happy and doesn't have a temp. He also seems hungry. he was grizzling when DD and I were having breakfast and weren't giving him any (he had only just been sick which is why I thought I'd leave it a bit before giving him something).

Is this happening to anyone else's child and, if so, how long was it before what went down stayed down???

Thanks in advance x

Yes perfectly normal with a stomach bug they can vomit quite randomly for days. I remember when dd was younger she got a bug that caused her to puke up at 6pm everyday for 5 days!

Yes, my DD1 had a bug recently and was ill for a day, fine for a day, and then really ill for the next three days, even though asking for food (she was very sick straight into her bowl of pasta one night, which was perfect from a clearing up point of view, but really upset her as she couldn't then eat it!). But it sounds like this has already been four days, so you might want to make a GP appointment for Friday just in case not getting any better by then (for your peace of mind before the weekend).

(I assume wet/dirty nappies, so no need to worry unduly?)

DS2 has just had a vomiting bug and was similar to your DS. He started vomiting on Friday morning and was quite bad but was much better on Saturday (only vomited a little bit a couple of times and managed to eat quite a bit) but then got worse again on Sunday. By Monday he was eating properly again but still grumpy but is fine now.

He also slept through every night and was only sick once during the night (on Friday night) but he still slept through it

Thanks, I feel much better. He's only had a stomach bug once before and it was all done and dusted in about 18 hours which is why this one had me worrying. Nappies are OK. Thanks again.

No probs - I asked exactly the same question here a few weeks ago when DD1 was ill, as thought it was wierd that it was coming and going! Bless mumsnet.

Yep, my dd can drag a stomach bug out for days with upto 24 hours between vomit!

I sympathise. My DD 27 months is currently in the throws of tummy bug and now ear infection. Vomiting up everything she eats since Saturday. Taken her to docs for the second time tonight, and we just have to grin and bear it. Try to get as much fluids into your son as possible, I have been giving her diluted milk, as she is a bugger to get drinking anything else. She is coughing, and coughing and coughing, until everything appears, over me, the bed the floor...you name it. I hope he gets better soon. And i hope DD also gets better soon. I need sleep!
