My 5yr old went to the dermatologist yesterday and her pimply rash on her cheeks is acne.
The dermatologist said it was probably diet and to cut out sweets and dairy. She just took a look at the rash and didn't ask anything else.
Once home I thought I'd google a bit more diet advice and just got a scary hit saying childhood (none infant or adolescent) acne is very serious and could be due to a tumour... Trying to stay calm I thought I'd just google acne generally for diet advice. I just got lots of hits telling me acne is linked to hormones and not diet. Help!!!

Hi beezmum,my ds has got bad skin, currently using fucidin on his face, but not making much progress, can I ask did you get referred to dermatologist?
Sorry i havent been of any help whatsoever to you,but try cutting out dairy, did they give you any thing to put on it?

I am very sceptical about British dermatology and a 5 year old with acne doesn't sound right to me.

I did get referred to the dermatologist that diagnosed acne yesterday. Dd has used fucidin already and although it cleared up the angry part of the rash it didn't take it away. I lost my faith in the dermatologist though because she also mentioned that my dd was b positive blood group and that she might therefore be sensitive to chicken and tomatoes. I didn't think that stuff was mainstream science! She was consultant dermatologist though and was very sure of her dianosis.
I am going to be getting antibacterial washes via the gp so I'll see how they go. She said if they didn't work dd would have to go on long term oral antibiotics. Surely a face rash at that age would be preferable??

one of the best antibacterial washes is Octenisan. It has relaced the old aquasept which is no longer available and will kill off 99.9% of bacteria. You can buy it over the counter but the chemist will probably have to order it in as it isnt common knowledge. I'd get a second opinion,i used to work in dermatology and have not come across acne in a child of that age..

Hi beezmum we’re you able to clear up your child’s rash or did they have to go on longterm antibiotics?
