3 week old screaming when trying to poo

Any advice? She is breast fed but does have the occasional formula bottle - Hasnt had one since Monday though.

She seems to hold onto her poos and do one massive one every other day (tmi!). Last night she was screaming on and off from 10pm and still hasnt pooed.

Dp thinks I should take her to my doctor but will he give us anything? Could there be something wrong with her? When she does poo its fine and normal.

I am not a medic but going on personal experience, constipation in a tiny baby can be caused by dairy intolerance (which they normally grow out of, btw).

If she is bf, could you try cutting dairy from your diet for a couple of weeks and see if this helps.

I dont think it would do any harm to take her to the GP if she's screaming and seems to be in pain. If she's fine at least it will put your mind at ease.

I would take her to the dr, i think at this age they will be more than happy to give her a once over and check all is well

Is she windy?

Thanks both. She is farting but you can feel her belly gurgling away. She hasnt been too bad today.

I will try cutting dairy out and see if that helps, thanks.

All my children got constipated as tiny babies. My third, ds seemed to get very unhappy waiting to poo. The health visitor said it was very normal and typical of breast fed babies. I remember reading in a book to try lying them on their back and do cycling motions with their legs to ease it out.
Its certainly very normal for them to get uncomfortable and poo in big splurges days apart.

Thanks, I gave dd a bath earlier and she pooed about half an hour after that! I wonder if that helped her relax.
