something in room giving DD permanent cold??

DD always has a cold and complains of blocked nose esp when wakes up in morning, just went to Spain for a week and she was right as rain but now we are back its back to 'my nose hurts' - she is 3 years old, what could be in her room that she could be allergic to? the bed is near the window would that cause it??

do you have radiators on through night as this could be drying the air out maybe you need to ventilate it a bit more i always leave window slightly open and have a bowl of water on top of rad this keeps the air from drying right out

Could be allergic rhinitis. DS2 has it. Gets worse in winter when we turn the radiators on. Last week we got a prescription from GP for Beclometasone (Beconase) which is hayfever allergy drug we squirt up his nose. It seems to be helping a lot.

You do need a prescrition for small chldren though. He told us this condition is common in chldren who get eczema.

I am a sufferer exactly like your ds , lovely when we go on holiday as I am fine too. I think mine is dust / heating/ dry air.

I would consider allergy too. What is her pillow and duvet made out of? Maybe consider replacing them with an anti allergy one (esp if they are feather).

A friend of mine had the same problem with her DD. It was DH that suggested changing the bedding and although it didn't solve the problem completely it made a massive improvement.

DS2 is like that all the time. His is an allergy to the house dust mite. We have put all the covers on the bed and pillows. He had the skin tests too prove it. He has tried beconase and nasonex. they helped but they gave him nose bleeds,so had to stop them. Now he is on cetirizine and beclomethasone inhaler as it has set him off wheezing after having it for so many years I am the same too.....its like allergic rhinitis and causes a post nasal drip which is horrible

Before worrying about allergies, I would start with airing the room well before bedtime/ leaving it open by a crack and turning the radiators down.
DD has stuffy nose whenever I forget to do those things.

Does any of her bedding have feathers in it? I can always tell if we sleep somewhere with feather pillows because dh starts snoring and wakes up very stuffy and bad tempered the next morning.

no feathers, think might be heating, her dad takes beconase and when i took her swimming as baby the clorine used give her colds, reading up on allergic rhinitis sounds exactly like it, thank you, will go to doctor now more informed!

weston - our DS2 has been taking Beconase for 2 weeks and it has worked wonders. His rhinitis gets much worse in winter when the heating is on. The only thing is he does not like it being squirted up his nose - but he has now got used to it if I do it quickly just once a day.

what age will doctors give beconase? she is 3 next week

Our DS2 is age 8 but the GP said the rule was he had to prescribe to any child under 18. Over 18 it can be got over the counter without prescription.

I have read a US website that says it is not recommended for children under 6 but UK websites say not recommended under 18. The product I am talking about is typically called Beconase (chemical name Beclometasone dipropionate) and is an aerosol nasal spray used to treat hayfever.

The prescription rules are unclear. I think you should talk to the GP and he/she may suggest maybe something like Piriton syrup which also is used to treat alergies including hayfever.

DS2 uses nasonex now as beconase has caused him irritation and bnose bleeds.

Tbh I think the baby being unwell has fed into my fears and now I worry sometimes unecessarily. It is awful when they are struggling to breathe and I know the signs of the beginning of it which unfortunately are also the same as a cold, cough etc. I do panic and crave reassurance because of this. I sm never up there with myself or for ds. She was harsh on me. Dp just came in and said we pay our taxes, she's our baby and if we want her checked what is the prob???

Both DH and I had the same. This is our first winter in new house and discovered same mould behind the chest of drawers. Cleaned it up and have stopped waking up sneezing and sniffing.
