Thread worms- should they be painful?

DS2 5yrs has thread worms, he had the tablet from the GP 4 days ago.

We have had to go back since and GP has given me some pile cream to put on him as he seems to be in huge pain (like thousands of wasps up his bum he says).

The cream takes about 10 minutes to take effect, and that is only lasting a couple of hours at most, and he still has painful bits in between.

GP said to bring a poo sample in tomorrow anyway, and will be seeing him again then, but I don't think she quite believes me when I say he is literally leaping around the room screaming in agony. I know little boys can be prone to ham it up, but he is usually the tough one of my lot!

Anyway, just wondered if anyone else had experienced this or had any advice to help?

BTW, initially I did see some worms in his poo, but I haven't seen any for the last day or two.

My dd has had thread worms a couple of times. She has never complained of pain, and believe me, she would. I've no idea what could be causing the pain but would be urging the doctor to investigate and not dismiss it.

Thanks for your replies, sorry not to have answered sooner. It actually got even worse this afternoon so we ended up at out of hours. The doctor has refered him to the paediatricians as he thinks it may be a fissure.

Pixie, how did the haematoma become apparent?
