Stomach bug or something else?

dd1 and i had a D&V bug on sat, i thought dd2 had already had it a week or so before, she had sickness followed by scarlet fever, she's just finished anti-b's for scarlet fever and now she has started coughing and being sick (mainly phlem (sp) ). She doesn't seem to be in pain although she cant tell me but she's not herself.

I don't think i can take much more illness (have had very little sleep since last time she was ill what with dd1 and i being ill too.

Does it sound like she's got the bug?

looks like nobody else is up

Dd2 is still being sick and coughing but is walking around and asking for food .

Hard to know how she's feeling as she has Autism and doesn't really know when things hurt.

I gave her a few sips of water which came back up, should i not give her anything for a while or keep trying with the fluids (even though she's throwing it back up all over the sitting room as she wont stay still)?

My DS had similar just before Christmas, he threw up about 7 times all together but it was just phlegm (quite a lot though). Happy as larry in between each episode, but during the 6 hours he was puking even water would trigger him to be sick.

Doc said because he'd had a cough for weeks before hand it was probably his body expelling all the crap he'd swallowed.

Hope she's feeling better soon.

The Doctor told me to keep giving sips of water every 5 - 10. Don't let her drink a glass of water as she will bring it back up

My DD1 and DS are fine just DD2 is still throwing up even though wanting food.

I hope she gets better and you get your sleep back,

thanks milkandcookies- i thought we were over the illness and was starting to make plans to take the girls out. I'm giving her dyralite(sp) in small sips, most of which is coming back up, she's now stood next to me crying as she wants more drink.

Please can someone tell me, how much vomiting is too much, when should i be worried? Dd2 is still being sick and has been sick 10+ times since 5am, she's not keeping fluids down, is now very grumpy and tired and continuing to gag and cough.

Do i phone the GP back or will he think i'm being an over protective mother?

I know its just a tummy bug but i hate seeing her like this .

Any advice please.

How old is she?

BeckyBendyLegs · 18/02/2010 13:52

I just ask because when my DS2 had a stomach bug at about 14 months he was throwing up for 10 days on and off. I was very worried but the health visitor said it was just a stomach bug and that sometimes small children can take a while to throw it off, and to keep offering him water / non-dairy and things such as apples (hard as he loves milk more than anything else). He did get better and I know it was a bug because DS1 got it shortly after for only 2 days.

She's almost 4, i will keep trying with water until she keeps it down.

I phoned NHS direct who told me to phone my GP back so now i'm waiting again for him to phone to say if i need to take her to the surgery.

I hope she is ok xx

Marne · 18/02/2010 17:20

Doc has just seen her and said to keep trying fluids, if she's no better by 9pm i have to take her to the hospital, at the moment she's not dehydrated so as long as i can get some king of fluids into her she should be ok.

even if its 2 sips of water its better than nothing, so will keep her hydrated. Let me know how she gets on.

DD2 hasn't been sick since this morning, fingers crossed the bug has gone.

Morning all - we managed to get through the night with out going to A&E, i decided just to let her sleep so she had a sip of drink and then slept 8pm until 2am, i started pushing in the fluids as soon as she woke, she had a few sips and went back to sleep for a couple hours. So far she has not been sick, i will keep pushing the fluids today and hopefully she will pick up by tomorrow.
