Racing heart when resting

I hope someone can help. Our dd is four and I noticed a few weeks ago that her little heart was racing away when she got up in the morning ? thought it was odd and decided to keep a close eye on her. Well, this morning she had no energy, her heart racing away while she was lying on the sofa. I totally freaked out and took her to A&E. Doctors haven?t a clue, lots of tests ? nothing apparently wrong. Has anyone had anything similar happen?

Her background - In the last 6 months her interest in food has been on the decline? she barely eats and is more than happy to graze all day. She?s never been a great eater though. She keeps being sick too, not much and it comes suddenly with no warning and never a great amount. She looks sick when she eats, has no colour to her face and dark circles around her eyes even though she gets enough sleep (10-12 hours). I thought the not eating was physiological; could this be why her heart is racing when she?s resting?

Sorry if it's a bit rambling, I'm a nervous wreck after this morning...

When you say racing away...what is her pulse?
Her heart rate will be faster than ours by some way.
Perhaps contact GP for thoughts on reflux as that may be a cause for her sickness.
Be assured though that as the doctors found nothing untoward, it is probably a mimor thing that can be dealt with given time.

I know this sounds daft but how do you know her heart was racing-did you feel her pulse or was is something visible to you? Is she complaining of feeling dizzy/faint etc...I presume if you saw the drs they put her on an ECG monitor to look at the heart trace? As mrspoppins says at 4 her heart rate will be higher than an adults-does she seem unduly exhausted by any exercise or exertion?

It was as if she had been running, it was visable through her chest. I didn't take her pulse though... She was grey and limp. There is history of heart problems on both sides of our family you see and I think thats why I full on freaked out. ECG was fine, didn't pick up anything.

I've got a sensible Dr's appointment booked for her to discuss everything in a cool, calm and collected mannor.

Ditto to Pixie...A GP or an A&E department would rather see a healthy child with a suspicion of being ill that an child whose parents "didn't like to bother anyone" who turned out to be poorly.

Agree with all the above-in my experience parents ALWAYS know best-if you are worried always get it checked out...hope she is ok

We saw the Dr and they've picked up a heart murmur. We've been referred to a paedriatrican thankfully, they are calling me today with an appointment.

They can't say if the sparodic sickness and runs is due to the murmur but they can be linked.

Lets hope it's an innocent murmur and just one of those episodes we can put away tidy and laugh about one day...

My neice had something similar with shortness of breath also. She had blood tests and an ECG , but it turned out to be an infection that manifested itself in a very high temp around 2-3 weeks later. She had a course of antibiotics and is now okay.

Yes - was going to say a racing heart is the sign of an immanent infection.
