Chicken pox

Neither me or any of the 3 kids have had it.

Now 1 of the twins has it...not too badly I don't think and I also I think I have it (not as bad as the twin).

Eldest dd and other twin are not showing any symptons at all.

Should I quarantine everyone? Am I really going to spend half term stuck in the house?

'fraid so.
Be careful, especially with yourself, it can be a bugger in adults...I had it at 16 and thought I was on my way out.

Do you have a sore throat? That's how mine started.

Fingers crossed for you.

bugger...yep I actually thought I was on my way out last night...the joint pain was incredible.
Yep sore throat, sneezing since Saturday...

we have it too atm
you can go out, just not associate with people - we go to outdoor places (park, river to feed ducks etc), taking thermos / snacks to avoid going in to shops and warning off people who approach

really we need bells and placards and to shout 'unclean, unclean!'

poorbuthappy · 15/02/2010 08:11

So how long do I need to wait to be sure that 1 twin and eldest aren't going to get it?

Yes I do feel very unclean this morning!!!!!

my two had chicken pox EXACTLY 2 weeks apart....one whole month of purgatory...

poorbuthappy · 15/02/2010 09:01

being seriously thick here...so if dd1 and twin1 don't get it within the next 3 weeks we are clear?
So do we go to school next week? When do I stop being contagious?

I've read various things about that, some say 5 days after the spots come out, others say once the last spot has crusted over which can be longer.

so if you and twin2 are crusted over next week and the other 2 are not unwell, then you can send them to school I reckon. You can't really keep them home just in case they develop chickenpox. of course if they show any coldy symptoms then you could keep them home on the basis that they are probably developing it.

fwiw, dd has been exposed numerous times. she is now 10 and still never had it. I really wish she would just to get it over with.
