DS 2.6yrs has water infection

GP confirmed my suspicion that ds1 has a UTI.
Is it better for me to leave him trouser/pants free indoors to give him some air, or keep trousers on him to stop him touching his willy?

Keep everything as normal so pants and trousers on. Give lots of fluids to ensure the urine is very dilute and he goes frequently and possibly if young enough pop on a pull up for nightime and bed wetting is common with a UTI.

How does a 2 year old boy get a UTI?

My nephew had one at similar age. My sister reckoned it was due to him soaking his pull up at night to the point that there was no more room for soakage.

She moved him to a bigger size and no more problems.

It's not that in this case. He normally wakes dry in the mornings

ds had 2 utis at 1.8 and 1.9 but none since.

try and get him to drink lots of water but not oj or anything acidy as it can make it sting more.

Has GP given antibiotics? Your ds MAY require a kidney scan in time - it is procedure here.

Yes he's on AB's. She has sent sample off to be tested and wants to follow up with another sample next week.
I suffer with UTI's and kidney infections quite often, would hate for ds1 to be the same

Normally bacteria from the skin around but lots of kids get it...Don't beat yourself up over it.

Try running some warm water over his willy when he has a wee from a jug and explain to him it will help it feel nicer.

Use something like femfresh to clean bottom and willy etc... on a daily basis. I have been using this on kids for years as it as way of making sure they are lovely and clean without risking getting soap up there!! This can eliminate the risk of bacteria from his bottom re infecting his willy.

This may delay him again in potty training but be calm and open...Tell him this is a little problem that is going to go away very soon and when it does, all will be ok again.

I was thinking maybe I'm not cleaning him properly...........but I'm sure I am. I'm not supposed to pull the foreskin back am I? Because I don't.....

You're right, just leave his willy as it is and wash thoroughly everywhere! I let little ones do this for themselves and we call it special wee wee soap and I pull of the label so the six year olds don't start reading and asking "what is feminine hygeine?"

urinary tract infection in a young boy requires further investigation. I would hope that your GP has suggested this already, if not when he is better go back and ask.

No, gp just said they'd want another sample when AB's are finished. I'll ask though
