uncontrollable coughing in 6 month old

Hi - ds2 (6 months) has had a cough for a good 2-3 weeks now. Particularly bad when he's asleep. It was woken him tonight (as on other nights) with so much coughing that he is quite distressed. It's like he's trying to get something out.. to cough something up that isn't there?

Any ideas what this is / what could be causing it / what I can do to help him? He has reflux, and I thought it was a refluxy-type cough, but I'm not so sure now. Ds1 also has a cough, but it's different, and more chesty. ds2's is a dry, annoying, won't go away kind of cough..

thanks!

I would get him looked at. There is a lot of undiagnosed whooping cough that is not a problem really in older kids and adults but more distressing to an infant. For now I would try a warm vaporizer or sitting in the bathroom with a hot shower on.
