My little ds used to get this every time he had a cold. I always use boiled slightly cooled water with salt added, dip in a clean piece of cotton wool and wipe once across the eye. Throw away cotton wool and repeat with a clean piece until all the eye is clear. Continue to do this when necessary. The important thing is to only wipe once with each piece of cotton wool so you're not re-infecting or spreading the infection. In my experience this clears up the problem as fast as any eye cream etc. Hope this helps and your little one is clear soon.

DS2 had sticky eyes for first 4 months - he had small (and therefore easily blocked) tear ducts. Just because they are sticky does not mean they are infected. If the eye itself gets red then you may need some drops but otherwise just clean as hmmSleep suggests.

squirt with breastmilk

sounds mad but really really works

I did a similar thing to hmmSleep but without the salt. It cleared up in a few days.

MrsBadger, I remember trying that but for some reason (sleep deprivation) I was waving my boob in DS's face! And he kept opening his mouth. So I gave up and used water. Why I didn't think to express a bit, I do not know..
