My ds (7) has been itching his scalp for at least 3 weeks now. At first I thought it was headlice and even though i couln't see any lice, applied Hedrin!

I've also given him a very short haircut in case it was general sweatiness (yuck). Still itching... Went and asked the pharmacist today and she said to see the GP.

Seems a bit drastic to me, is there something else I can do? He's too young for coal tar shampoo.

Eczma, eczma, eczma!
My step brother is 9 and ahs the same trouble at the moment.
We all thoought it was headlice...nope.
He likes to keep his hair long (its red and very cute!) so we cut it all off in case it was just sweat (cue lots of tears)...nope.
Took him to the gp who recommended oilatum shampoo and hey presto all is well
Do go to the gp if you're worried though but i'd recommend giving oilatum shampoo a try too xxx

DD needs to use vosene shampoo - but she had flakey scalp as well as itchiness.

Thank you! Off to Boots/Superdrug - a bottle of oilatum has got my name on it.

Let us know how it goes honey xx

Baulked at the cost of oilatum shampoo, the pharmacist there suggested washing with aqueous cream - so have washed ds' hair with it, he's hardly scratched his head this eve, so keeping fingers crossed.

get it on the NHS! We get all our eczema stuff on prescription.

having said that , ds2 gets a v itchy head, particularly at night - I already put oilatum in the bath though, and wash his hair and skin with Dermol 500 lotion, and usually put some hydrocortisone as well.. and the occasional piriton..!

yeah the cost isnt too good :S like naturopath said though, try to get it from the gp. mine will only give oilatum for the bath and oilatum cream though, not the shampoo.

Aqueous is ace too, never used it on my borthers hair but we use it instead of soap for DD xx

3 days later and it's still looking good with the aqueous cream.

DS still occasionally scratches but nowhere near as often.
