As it says really.

DS is 2, has had a stomach bug for the last 2 days and today has decided that he doesn't want to drink anything.

Any suggestions welcome - it's pretty desperate here at the moment...

ice lollies?

MrsSantosloves2010 · 02/02/2010 14:40

fruit juice lollies - up the water content if you like. I have some AK lolly moulds but I think you can get them in any supermarket. Failing that just any fruit lollies you can lay your hands on. Any clearish liquid is good when they are sick AFAIK. My kids had the D&Vs this weekend (along with me) and it was all they could stomach. Poor you - hope it passes soon

Will ask DH to pick some up on his way home from work. Just tried improvising with an ice cube - got a frosty reception

Thanks for the suggestions by the way!

FWIW, a paediatrician friend told me that a dehydrated child will drink almost anything, including the vile but helpful Dioralyte, so try not to worry too much - if he won't drink it's because he's not desperately thirsty (yet)

Keep some in reserve for if he does need it though. Poor thing.

Suck on a wet (clean!) facecloth?

How ill is he? Is he up to playing with a toy teaset and a bowl of water? Because they always drink that, especially if you tell them not to.

Thanks castille - panic over!

No chance fruitful - currently lying on couch under a blanket, not even insisting on watching Fireman Sam - he must be quite poorly!

Also thought about flat "fat" coke. That used to be a tummy bug cure when I was travelling and there was no handy chemist nearby. I wouldn't be wild about giving lots of caffeine to my little kids but would rather that than dehydration. But, if you're not in the wilds of the African bush......... Dioralyte tastes vile. Tried it once and DD would not have any of it. There is a recipe on the internet for a (WHO?) rehydration fluid (part sugar and salt I think).
