dd temp and cough for 5+ days

will try and keep short, but need some reassurance....
dd, 6yrs has had bad cough and running a high temp on and off since last wed night. been to docs, said it was a virus...
at weekend no better, took to emergency doc again who said virus and high temp could last that long.
yest... took back to local gp who checked again, and said could be chest infection and gave her penicillin.
she has taken 3 doses, and in morning starts off fine and perky then late morning her temp rises, she coughs more and now she is asleep.
she isn't eating, is having calpol, neurofen sometimes and pencillin and I was by now expecting her to be getting better!
she is drinking loads of fluids, but even skinnier and frailer than she normally is.
Am I right to be worried that after all this time she is still quite poorly, or will she start improving now?

i wouldnt worry too much about eating as long as she is drinking. ms ds goes about 10 days without food when he has a virus. dont know about the temp persisting though. do you have a walk-in-centre by where you live you could call in there just for some reassurance. use you instincts and go the doctor as many times as you want if you feel something is not right. good luck and hope she gets better soon

thanks for your reply. she is asleep now so am hoping that will do her some good.... i try not to worry about the food thing but she's such a wee thing....
10 days is a long time without food!!!
I do use that good old mother's instinct so will contact the doc again if still worried..
thanks.
