i am the mother of two sons and as neither myself nor my husband have a foreskin we are at a bit of a loss as to what to do with them!
we know that they should be left alone until they can retract them themselves and we have done this.
however our eldest son has balanitis at the moment and has to have ointment applied to the tip of his penis.
he says that touching the inside bit of his penis hurts-even before he got this infection. is this normal? is it just hyper sensitive?
also once it can be retracted-how often should it be washed? every day? he had a bath yesterday and tonight i thught he was smelly down there.so he had another bath.
are we now in the realm of bath every single day or risk sore willy?

ds2 had all sorts of problems but they sorted themselves out eventually. I'll try to find a thread in a min. Basically you need to get your son to retract his foreskin whenever he's in the bath or shower and clean the area - that's what the consultant told me anyhow. But don't worry about it being every day.

If you don't mind me talking from experience (I'm a man), then he's an uncircumcised pre-pubescent boy it's entirely normal that the glans of his penis is extremely sensitive to the touch. The closest equivalent I can think of is the inside of your eyelid. As he gets older that will change.

As for cleaning, a quick swish in the bath/shower once or twice a week should be fine unless there is an infection. Don't forget that the foreskin gets a wash out with sterile liquid several times a day so it doesn't need much else in the way of maintenance.

Just found the thread. God... I'd forgotten all this! He's 14.5 now!

Infected foreskin smell... worse than the cheesiest tummy button ever!

ihaveapenisquestion · 01/02/2010 23:34

god yes!!!
so that is the infection then?
bloody hell.
he has been given canesten that he has to apply 3 times a day. tonight was the first night so i was going to show him what to do and he was so stinky! so i shoved him in the bath and left him to it-told him to give it a bloody good wash!

Canesten is for Candida infections so he will find that a handful of bicarbonate of soda in the bath water is soothing.

fish = infection...get him to retract it gently ,daily if he can to loosen it up otherwise it will stay tight . DS1 had the same problem and he smelled cheesey too(yuk)

ihaveapenisquestion · 02/02/2010 13:30

his foreskin isn't actually tight-he can retract it without any problems as far as i can see.
i was just wondering about the sensitivity of the 'inner penis' so to speak, but it seems that it is normal. thanks for all your help and uinput everyone!
