infected warts on a little boy

My 3 year old ds has had warts on the back of his knees for about a year.

Wasn't worried at first, but a few weeks ago I saw one of them had been bleeding, and yesterday one of them looked like it was full of yellow puss.

He would'nt let me get close enough to get a good look, but I think he has about 10 warts in total behind the knees (few on each leg).
I think he has scratched a few of them now, and 2 looked infected.

I dont really want to take him to get them frozen off cos that seems a bit much for a 3year old to have to deal with. Has anyone else had this? did they clear up by themselves?

I'm wondering if a homepathic remedy might be the best thing for this actually.

My DS had these too - I can't remember what they were called but what I do remember is that the paediatrician told me that the best way to get rid of them without freezing was for them to get infected as this seemed to trigger the appropriate immune system reaction.

He was right - nothing else worked and we had tried everything except freezing them off because DS wouldn't stay still for this to be done

Thankyou, yes I was just hoping they were a childhood thing and would disappear (I remember my younger brothers having them). Does seem to be a boy thing for some reason, I dont remember having them...

Will just keep an eye on them I think, hopefully the infected ones will just sort of 'drop off' then?
I do remember something similar happening to my moles atually when I was a girl, just the body entering a new stage and the cells regenerating perhaps.

Sounds to me like molloscum. My daughter has this, and when I took her to the doctor they said its a virus, there is no treatment currently and it would go away of its own accord in 1-2 years. Its been 6 months now and they are still there - hers are in her armpit.
The doctor said they are harmless and she won't be bothered by them. However she scatches them a lot, and points at them and says "sore" and they often become infected. Like ginandchocolate says I've hear that once they are infected that triggers an immune response and they go away, but unfortunately in our case the infected one goes away but there are still loads more. She has about 100 warts/spots in all.
Sorry this isn't more helpful but I'll be really interested if there is anyone out there who has any tips on how to deal with molloscum.

oh your poor dd. I will do some research for molloscum then. Sounds like a specific type of warts then? They are a viral thing i think...

Interesting that they are all occurring in similar places- armpits and back of knees, warm and moist parts of the body, not sure how that makes a difference though?!

Hope they go away soon for your dd Ginger, at least my ds doesnt actually seem very bothered about them.

there are lots of threads on here about molluscum contagiosum. DS has them just now but he only has a few remaining. DD had them for at least a year too

Have had a read through the other threads and yes in definitely molluscum.

Not sure I can bear to squeeze them, would probably be very satisfying sctually!! But can't see ds being convinced. Am taking it as a good sign that theyre getting getting sore now as that seems to be when they start to disappear.

Glad to have got it out of the way whilst he's too young to be embarassed really.

WARTS - I HAVE A CURE AND IT WORKS!!!
Both my husband and I have had a lot of warts and I was really upset when my baby daughter had one on her finger almost from birth. It didn't go and over the last 3 years they kept spreading. Doctors said to leave them and they'd go but recently lots of tiny new ones appeared, mainly on hands and fingers but also on her face and round her mouth.
A new Doctor came to our surgery who told me to try 'duct tape'. She'd used it on her 3 boys and it worked. It has to be the silver tape. You put it on just 1 wart, leave the tape on for about 5 days and then either just nights or on a few days, off a few days. You have to do it for about 3 weeks and the one under the tape will go and then gradually the others will all start to get bigger (they sort of push out and look crusty) then they get smaller and disappear!! IT IS AMAZING! The ones on her face were the last to go but now she is wart free. The tape irritates the wart and alerts the body to its presence, it then produces antibodies - apparently! It's a miracle I think. Wasn't on Mumsnet but joined to spread the word. Good luck!
