My 5 mo DD and I have awful colds. She's had a couple before but they didn't bother her. More miserable with this one and a terribly stuffy nose. Last night she slept about 10 minutes in every hour, with being in my bed not even helping much. DH is away, so it was a night on our own. Any ideas about how to make her more comfortable today/ tonight? She is BF (with one bottle of formula). I have thrush though, so although I know I should be feeding her little and often, this is really hard to do!! Still, she breathes better when feeding.
Thanks.

Saline nose drops - they just help to liquify the mucus in her nose so that she can sneeze it out more easily (which is delightful when bfing ). Sitting in a hot, steamy bathroom with her, or placing bowls of hot water safely around the room you're in/ damp towels on radiators. Calpol if you think she has a sore throat.

I feel for you, colds here too and DS (9 months) is just feeding feeding feeding feeding feeding.......appreciate this must be no fun at all with thrush. Plenty of painkillers for you too!

Thanks for advice. I guess saline drops means us going out in the bloody SNOW to the chemist! Thanks for sympathy too.

Oh, no, not snow! You could maybe just try the steamy rooms first? Any kindly neighbours who will be popping to the shops today?

And Karvol or Olbas oil if going to the chemist - couple of drops on a cloth on the radiator.

Calpol make a saline nose spray now which seems much more effective than the old drops. Sympathies - ds2 is 5 months and both of us have rotten colds. His not helped by the fact that every time he has a cold (feels like he's had one since October now) the mucus makes him super sicky. Grrrr.

I made use of our ridiculously hot water and made a sauna in the bathroom which we sat in for a while. Seemed to help a bit and she/ we slept for about an hour - longest period so far! I think we'll try to get out to the chemist - the thought of staying in all day is worse than the thought of going out! Pooka - we have lots of sick too! Great.
DD, by the way, is now full of beans and wants to play, smearing snot all over her toys and everything she touches.
