Bad measles side effects after MMR.....is ther anything we can do other than dose with calpol?

DS2 had his MMR last Wednesday and since Tuesday has been pretty ill with side effects; cough, snotty, high temperature, measly rash on chest and cheeks, red runny eyes.

the cough kept him awake all last night and even with calpol, he is still pretty miserable and is now sounding a bit chesty and wheezy.

Is it just a case of keeping up with the calpol and/or ibuprofen or is there a point at which I should call the doc?

My guess is that this is not from the jab, as was too long ago and he has just caught a nasty virus (they get this kind of rash often when they are trying to fight something off). I'd see the doctor just to be on the safe side

No, it's definately from the jab...measles effects occur at about a week to ten days after with mumps effects about three two to three weeks after. Tis to do with the incubation period of the diseases themselves.

My older two had this too, but nowhere near as badly as DS2 is suffering.

Dd2 had side effects the day after her MMR pre-school booster, we ended up in A&E as she had a temp of 41c and refused to drink, within a couple hours she was ok (after being given fluids and cal pol). We were told to expect side effects a week after the jab so we were shocked that she was ill the next day. The hospital conformed it was a reaction to the jab.

Keep offering him fluids and give cal pol and ibuprofen.

Phone your GP if you are worried.

thanks

the rash is a little better and he is taking lots of bm, although not eating nd a limpet. If he is still ill in the morning, I'll call the gp
