I posted on here the other day about my ds's speech/ stammer and have now asked my HV to refer him to a SALT. She is happy to do this but has said that they may not see him yet as they don't generally see kids till they are 2 1/2. He's 2.3 which is not the end of the world but if we do have to wait he'll have had his stammer for 6 months by then. Has anyone else been told anything like this? i'm a little worried if this is the case.

Where i am they prefer to wait until then to allow speech to fully develop as some things that seem to be a problem can correct themselves.

When I went to the SALT, when DD was about 3 years, the SALT told me not to worry before the age of 5 because kids will often be slower or faster before then but if the problems were still there then to come back.

This wasn't for a stammer though so may be quite different.

It can't hurt to go along even if they say come back in (however many) months time can it?

thanks for the info, we'll take him to see them as soon as we are able. just good to gauge if other pct's/ county councils did this.
