Grunting toddler

DS aged 3 has had started several episodes a day of grunting breathing. He does not seem distressed but just sits and tilts his head back. This has been going on for a few weeks. He seems to be grunting with each breath and his breathing slows. He doesn't change colour (or i would be taking him to A & E).
I have kept a record of how often (his chldminder counted 16 different spels of this in a day) and have recorded te sound to play to our GP (i think they think i'm neurotic!). We have an appointment to see a GP in a few days.
He has enormous tonsils....
Any ideas? I did start to google it, but scared myself.
