Fever for 5 days straight with a cold? Is it possible?

Hi everyone, ds1 (7yo) is on his 5th straight day of fever. He's not particularly unwell, just spending his days between computer games, TV and naps. The fever sometimes goes down and I get all hopeful that it's over, and then it goes back up again. His only other symptom is a blocked up nose. I got the GP to check throat and ears, but only on the 2nd day (ie 3 days ago), as I happened to have GP appt for me and he came along.

Have any of your dcs had such a long fever with only a cold? It's been up to 39, but mostly is around 38oC.

Fingers crossed he can go back to school tomorrow.

Sounds like a cold to me. He'll be past the infectious stage, I would send him back to school tomorrow if he feels OK.

There is quite a bit of it at DS1's school - the school nurse called it a 'fever bug'. DS1 now has it - fever of up to 40.3 for two days. Feels well when the fever is down - no other symptoms apart from a slightly blocked nose and lethargy when the fever is up. The doctor could find no obvious cause and was sure it wasn't flu (not ill enough and no cough).

I hope your DS feels better soon

Thanks - he's back at school today. Looked a bit pale and wan this morning, but no fever, so I sent him in. He's pretty snotty and has a bit of a cough, so I suppose 'fever bug' is probably it. Poor thing has been ill 5 times since Sept, must be as fed up as I am.

Hope your DS got on all right today Romanarama. It's awful when they get a run of illnesses. 5 times since September is a lot for a little chap (or his Mum for that matter!) to cope with

Thanks acebaby. He came out of school with a temp again and looking terrible. Just been to GP who said he's prob got a sinus infection from him cold and prescribed antibiotics so fingers crossed he'll be better soon. All 3 boys and I have been ill loads since moving to a different country in September. It's so exhausting, I can't wait for some better weather.
