mystery rash and swollen face

My dd, who's 2 1/2, developed a pin prick bumpy red rash on her torso on sunday, but is fine in herself. On monday she went to childminders, and when I picked her up, her cheeks and under her eyes were swollen. Took her to the doctor, who pretty much shrugged and said, "I don't know, but keep an eye on her
The rash on her body has since gone down, though still bumpy, but she is still swollen and now has a red rash on her cheeks and chin that's a bit rough. Have put sudocrem on but doesn't seem to do much.Have been googling but can't find anything, I don't think it's slapped cheek as no cold symptoms, and the rash on her body appeared first. Think it's just some viral thing, but wondered if anyone else has experienced this? Also any ideas on something I could put on to soothe the cheek rash.

could be an allergy. eyes tend to swell when there is one. Are the eyes weepy.

No weepy eyes, and no change to washing, clothes or food. She is as normal as she usually is except the rash. I'm giving it til tues when she would have had it a week before going back to doctors. Frustrating not knowing what it is!

you dont always get a cold with slapped cheek (parvo virus)Both my boys had it with no cold symptoms

alypaly · 21/01/2010 23:23

the rash with parvo is not normally lumpy,it literally looks like a slapped face and is mostly asymmetrical

hophophippidtyhop · 22/01/2010 20:04

Well, it seems to be going down now, just one of those things I suppose! Still feels a bit rough on skin, but the redness has gone.

has she touched anything she could be allergic to? I can't touch rhubarb or tomato plants as if i then touch my face it puffs up in areas (esp round the eyes), goes red and very dry/ sandpaper rough. could be something along those lines?

I think its viral - my DD had a very similar thing, I took her to the minor injuries because i thought it might have been an allergy, wanted to give her a piriton but wasn't sure - the nurse practitioner said it was a viral rash. Sounds exactly like what DD had, she was running a low grade temp but no other sypmtoms.

Ninja - no, no new things to touch, it's been raining so stuck inside with cabin fever - maybe that's what the rash is!
Lucyellensmadmummy - yes, that sounds like it, perfectly normal except the rash. It is going now. Gave my mum a misson though, she put her doctor bob hat on and seemed determined to diagnose where the doctor couldn't!
