Sore chin any experience?

My son (7 months) has a sore chin; the skin is flaky and quiet red. I've put it down to the cold weather / central heating / constant dribbling combination. We've tried various creams that help a bit but it's not really getting better. Has anyone had a similar experience and been to the Dr's and had it diagnosed as something else?

Thanks ap, went to the nurse today and yes have been prescribed a barrier cream. I think our mistake has been not to put whatever we've been using on often enough.

frog put it under his chin and on to the top of the chest once he starts dribbling more as the neck creases can get sore too.
