DS2 is 15 months old for the last 8 weeks he has had an ear discharge which we are told is an infection in the middle ear causing a perforation to the ear drum and then the goo comes out of his ear.
We have been to the GP and the ENT clinic who have prescribed antibiotics, it clears up and then about 2 days after the ABs finish the goo starts to come back out of his ear. I think what is happening is the ABs are suppressing the infection but not killing it and as soon as they finish it builds up and re-perforates his ear drum.
I have been to see the GP this morning who is re-referring him back to the hospital (he was discharge last week as his ear had healed up!!).
We are obviously worried about his hearing, he is OK-ish in himself but not really perky (IYSWIM). When we go back to the hospital I'm not sure what the options are for such a young child, I heard of grommets and adenoid removal but it seems to be in older children.
If anyone's DCs have had similar issues I would really like to hear how they were resolved, thanks
