High fever, no other symptoms...

DS (a healthy 8 year-old) has been getting high temperatures (over 39) since Thursday. He seems fairly well and has no other symptoms--no spots, sniffles or weird aches and pains. Saw GP who tested urine and gave him an examination for signs of tonsilities etc: nothing found. He said it could be a virus and to continue treating the fever with ibuprofen. Just wondering if anyone had experienced anything similar?

Should add, DD has had chicken pox but DS definitely already had this when he was tiny.

Yes - my ds when 4 had this for 7 days, day 4 I went to GP and no sign of anything else, day 6 and went back to GP as ds REALLY unwell and me worried. It was an ear infection which had just taken a long time to show local symptoms. 24 hrs of anti b's and he was a different boy. Just keep observant and go back to GP if worried.

I was about to suggest UTI - my DD has had these frequently, and the only symptoms for her are high temp and lethargy. Did the GP get the test results back?

DS2 had this for about a week. He managed to fly to New Zealand with it poor kid. We swapped between nurofen and calpol every 4 hours and he survived. After 2 days we thought he was ok so took him out only for him to relapse.
Hope your DS gets well soon.

GP tested urine on Thursday with the instant test you can carry out at the surgery--didn't send it to lab. His ibuprofen has kicked in so he's fine at the moment and watching a movie, but has no appetite and no energy.

He now has a rash (not the scary sort) which is quite pale, but no other measles symptoms--am waiting to see what else develops.

Measles - do you suspect it then? Has he had the MMR or single jabs? It could well be a viral rash though, in which case it will pass.

He didn't have the MMR. It doesn't really look like a measles rash yet. And I can't see any spots in his mouth, so maybe just a viral rash. Still getting v high temperatures--but within 30 mins of ibuprofen he was happily leafing through his Lego catalogue demanding some expensive bit of kit.
