Can I ask about foreskins? Anyone's DS had theirs 'detached'?

Apparently boys are born with their foreskins attached to the penis but then it should naturally detach over the first 7 years to allow movement.......

My DT2 is 5.5 and his foreskin hasn't detached yet. Not a problem as he is young, but its causing soreness. He is to go into hospital a week Tuesday for a GA to have it 'detached'. I think the intention is to force the skin back so it will move freely. The doc said he doesn't need circumcised.

Just looking to hear if anyone has experience and can tell me about discomfort/pain and recovery times.

My boys haven't had this done but this is quite a common operation to have - with the intention of it preventing a circumcision. It will be a quick operation (few minuites max) but because the drugs used are so strong he will probably be asleep for a while afterwards - so dont worry if it seems he is in theatre for ages. The anaethetist may or may not do a penile block which will numb his willy so he wont feel any pain there. If he doesnt - and they dont always as it is a minor proceedure normally without any cuts - then paracetamol and ibuprofen should be enough for him. He should be allowed home after he has eaten, wee'd and can walk
