Facial eczema

My 5 month old has really bad eczema on her face which is sore and weaping.

I use scratch mits, day and night, which do help a little but i really need something to clear it up.

The doctor has prescribed the usual, oilatum, diprobase etc but none work, as these are really just replacing the lost moisture, not clearing up the eczema. I think she is too young for steroid cream on the face and hydrocortizone cream does not help.

My 2 year old also suffers from eczema but not on the face so i am familiar with alot of the treatments available.

Just wondering if anyone out there has any experience (or ideas) on how to treat facial eczema?

If it is weeping you should take her beack to the gp in case it has become infected.

Dd2 had terrible facial eczema from the age of a couple of months. It was hard as she would touch her face so much and it would rub against all sorts of blankets and furnishings.

We used 0.5% hydrocortisone - still use 1% on face. I agree, it didn't seem to be terribly effective. It became badly infected a couple of times and so oral antibiotics shifted it all for a bit.

I think each month that passes helps a little as they hold their heads up more. Sorry I can't be more help.

you shouldnt be using steroids on the face unless it is under supervision of a doctor...as it can thin the skin very quickly.

if it is weeping..it sounds as if she has and infection. Is the exudate clear or yellow.

is it eczema or is it cradle cap(seborrheic dermatitis as this looks awful when on the face. if you enlarge the picture of the baby, does it look similar to thiswww.skinsight.com/infant/seborrheicDermatitisPediatric.htm

Thanks for this link. The exudate is clear and her face is mainly red and angry. I have a specialist appointment soon. Asked the doctor if it was seborrheic dermatitis but they are still saying it is eczema.

Does it look more like a scald.

you cant use a steroid on broken skin as it can cause bugs to grow.
If it loks more like a scald it could be a staph infection(scalded skin syndrome)which needs fucidin cream and anti biotics.
It doesnt sound like typical eczema.
