3 year old boy sore weeping penis

My DS has a sore and red penis. He has been scratchin g at it and fiddling around with it for a few weeks and I have told him to stop or he would hurt himself. Anyway, I was getting him ready for bed last night, so had a quick look. It seems very sore, he said it hurt, and there was a puss like liquid, only a tiny amount, oozing when I looked closely. It had a slightly bad smell to it too. I asked DH to come and have a look. DH took DS into bathroom, washed the area and had a look. He says he can't remember if his foreskin was retractable at that age, but that DS's definitely does not. He cleaned it with warm water, but couldn't get to the 'inside' where the fluid was, IYSWIM.
Today when DS got up, his penis was sort of 'gummed closed' at the end, with a tiny crust to it at the end. It's still sore tonight, no idea what to do. Should he be able to move his foreskin back by now? It isn't a hygiene issue. He baths every other night, wears clean pants every day etc. He does occasionally 'forage around' in his pants, with probably less-than-clean hands, but that's about it. Should I take him to GP? Will they recommend circumcision for him? DH is not sure.

they will probably give you some canestan if it smells abit fishy or cheesey. over a period of time i had to gently retract my sons foreskin as it was very tight and he got a really cheesey deposit which looked like a white lump underthe foreskin. Doc gave him a month of betnovate cream and i had to stretch the skin after washing. It was fine after 1 month

Sounds like Balanitis
www.patient.co.uk/health/Balanitis.htm

My son had it twice, the d said he'd grow out of it as his foreskin retracts and it will be easier to clean.
The dr put hi on antibiotics and also canestan in case it was viral. Cleared up really fast...salt baths helped too!
Hope is gets better soon

Hi

DH said tonight when he got back that he thought the GP would tell me to try and stretch his skin in the bath, just very gently. Will put him a salt bath tomo night as he is in bed already now. Will try and get him into GP tomo too, although God knows when they will have an appt, lol!

Thanks v much

Def balanitis. My DS had this when 1. Anti-biotics will clear up. Definitely take him to GP.
