My son is squinting and blinking all the time

Not sure if anyone else has had this problem but thought I would ask.

My DS is 8 and for the last year or so he has been squinting and blinking his eyes fairly excessively. It is not all the time but alot of the time. Took him to the optician who could see nothing behind his eyes infact his vision is perfect. Took him to the doctors (unfortunately saw an unsympathetic locum) who said that it was either hayfever or a habit he will grow out of. It is not hayfever as he is doing it now in winter.
A few weeks ago went to a concert at his school where he was playing an instrument I watched him proudly but he spent the whole time screwing up his eyes and squinting. I feel quite worried. He is a very intelligent boy and is generally well behaved apart from the odd tantrum. Really worried and not sure what to do. Can anyone help?

I have asked him and he says he feels like there is something in his eye irritating it. he does have very long gorgeous eyelashes. Just worried he may get teased. Will take him to my GP to get it checked. Thanks for the advice
