6 year old complaining of headaches

My six year old is complaining of headaches - he's not well anyway (had spiking temp) stuffy nose and breathe is a bit ponging (so assuming tonsillitis is rearing it's ugly head)

Headaches aren't something I'd associate with young children (so some reason) but his seem to consist of a sudden pain and are 'all his head' (not sure about his he just might not be able to say exactly where the pain is)

Anyone any experience? I'd loathe to go and pay the GP again (will though if I have too!!) as I handed over 110 to him yesterday

anyone any age can get a headache, so I wouldn't worry about that. It doesn't mean anything in itself, it's just a headache.

Having said that, I think it would be irresponsible to try to advise you one way or another, if you feel your child is terribly ill, dangerous fever etc, then he has to go to gp. If you feel it is not that bad and want to try painkillers etc first, then do that. It has to be your call based on your assessment of him.

I'm sure he's fine, maybe just a bad cold and blocked sinuses?

I don't think he's terrible ill - he's next to me right now and I'm fairly certain it's tonsillitis (seen it enough times with unfortunatly)

My DD is 6 and she has been complaining of headaches recently too. She has caught DS1's cough too.

dd1 get these a lot, mainly when she s ill, some kids are just that way. Might be worth running him for an eye test when his feeling better.

dd2 often gets headaches - it is usually her sinuses playing up unfortunately. Although when she got headaches without the colds etc I took her for an eye test and she did need glasses so it is worth thinking about. I do think that it sounds more like the virus or sinus in your ds case though. Hope he feels better soon.

My DS always gets headaches when he has tonsillitis so it seems for him the two are linked. When he is well he never complains about headaches. If they continue after the tonsillitis clears or if they get worse etc in the next few days then get checked out. Hope he feels better soon

I suppose it's hardly crazy them getting headaches when they are ill - not sure why i think of it as an older persons thing!!

He's improved something think else this evening thankfully - he says he's still got a headache but 'it's not really sore - so I'm not going to cry'

his spiking temp would cause headaches and smeely breathe is either teeth,tummmy or sinus /tonsil related problems. If he hasnt eaten much with illness hid breath can also smell of ketones which is a sweet foul smell.

Well that might explain the smell as it doesn't seem to be forming into tonsilltus - didn't want to eat all day and then he ate a full meal tonight and was in great form

I'll wait and see what the night brings and how he is in the morning

I used to get headachies as a child was sinusitis, needs ABs to clear it.

my dcs get horrid breath when they get sore throats or colds and often the headache isn't directly linked to anything other than being run down and tired.
