2 year old with blue lips

DS2 is 2 years old, and for the past year or so, he suffers episodes of blue tinged lips. It usually happens after he has been col (i.e. just got out of swimming pool, just drank a very cold drink etc). The rest of his face/mouth is fine - it just seems to be is lips, and he is very healthy and active otherwise. My husband mentioned it at the doctors and she seemed quite concerned - she checked his heart and his oxygen levels and they were normal, but she has still given him a referral to see a paediatrician "just to be on the safe side"......now I am worrying myself silly!!! Anyone else had any experience with this?

BTW - he is very pale in colouring - red hair and very white skin, so he is the sort of child where you can see every vein!!!

I used to care for a child with exactly the same thing. He was 2 and while at the nursery his lips would go blue for no reason. I was really worried about him and bullied his family to get him checked out. Grandma took him as dad wasn't interested. She reported back that the GP had given him a clean bill of health.
Chances are, it is nothing to worry about. Just another one of those things that we worry about.

Im a childrens heart nurse... I think blue lips, as a symptom on its own is probably nothing to worry about.... but your GP is doing the right thing and just making sure your son is ok by sending him to see a DR who specilises in that sort of thing.

That's reassuring to hear......will see the paed to be on the safe side, but will try not to get too stressed. Just looking at DS2 running around like a lunatic does reassure me that he's a healthy little chap!

dd1 used to get blue lips if we spent too long in the fridge dept of the supermarket

dd2 is the same, she is 3. dd1 is now 7 an seems to have grown out of it. don't worry but go to paed appt just to make sure
