Noisy breathing through nose

Does anyone have child with what seems like constant blocked nose. My DS 7 breathes really noisy through his nose. This started a few months ago, we noticed his breathing through this nose gets heavy and noisy when he eats as though he's strugging. However, the past month we have noticed that this is happening most of the time now (ie when he isn't eating). I took him to GP today, but didn't really get an answer. GP says he hasn't got a deviated septum and can't see polyps which is the usual cause. He's had a few nose bleeds this month so GP says it's a bit crusty up there and he needs to go back in a couple of weeks so he can have another look (assuming no more nose bleeds). DS also gets cracked dry lips, assuming because he has to breathe through his mouth a lot. Anyone any ideas?

The only way polyps can really be seen (apart from very obvious ones) is with a horrible flexible camera up the nose and looking beyond the visable areas. An ENT specialist does this. Your ds could also have allergic rhinitis (chronic hayfever) Allergy to cats/ dogs/pollen etc. but this should be spotted in the visible areas of nose by gp.(swollen mucous membrane) Also other symptoms, sneezing, runny nose etc. Needs checking out with ENT as other causes - thankfully most not serious
