could dd have diabetes?

Over the last couple of days I have noticed that she is drinking loads and then of course peeing loads

she has also been as miserable as sin lately and cranky like she is tired but she is getting more sleep on a night than usual, and it's not her usual crankiness either she's really really stroppy to the point where she just doesn't know what she's even crying for

I had put all this down to her having chickenpox followed by a terrible cough which went and turned into a cold and then she had the cough straight back, but a friend suggested she may have developed diabetes?!

I've googled it and the symptons seem to match up but then she could just be run down

well yes the symptoms match but has she lost weight? if your concerned the gp wont mind looking at her. there is no point fretting about diabetes as it can only be diagnosed by blood test but it is worth mentioning her symptoms to gp.

thanks I don't think she has lost any weight although I don't weigh her regularly so it would have to be a substantial loss for me to notice

I think I may nip up to the docs tomorrow and get her checked out it will hopefully just be a water infection

Should I take a urine sample with me or will they just check her blood?

they will probably do one there but wont do any harm to take one if you have a spare bottle.

I'd take a urine sample, because they can do some initial tests with it and then you won't have to hang around waiting for her to produce on.

Bear in mind that lots of people think their children have developed diabetes, but not many children actually have it, so don't worry too much - she might, as you say, just be run down.
