night fears or terrors

Like many parents we were terribly upset when one of our boys (5years old) was beset by something which initially we thought were nightmares. The apparently usual signs of 'night terrors or fears'.............sat upright, eyes open, wimpering, sweating, shivering and sometimes crying.....very frightening.
There were many suggestions on this site and others which caused us to change eating habits at night time with excellent results which I'd like to share.
Firstly, we limit eating to no later than one hour before they are likely to go to sleep. Secondly, we don't allow them anything which might be difficult to digest, keeping to light cereals, milk and yoghourt, a little fruit. No bread or similar stodgy foods. We have also tried as much as possible to avoid colours and preservatives.
The results have been spectacular with only one mild attack in the space of about 10 weeks.
I wish to share this in the hope that it will help others.
