horrid under chin rash

my DS (5 months) has a tendency to be sick after feeds(sometimes quite a while after!) plus has a cold plus has a prodigious quantity of drool (I assume teething). All managable except he's developed this horrid rash under his chin as a result. It looks really painful and I'm sure isn't helped by the cold weather. I'm using Sudacreme (sp?) but wonder if there's anything better (since it doesn't seem to be working terribly well...)?

use vaseline as a preventative measure, especially before he eats or goes out in the chilly weather
it will soon go but will look uncomfortable (and probably feel pretty sore) until it settled
