It's the first day and she is laid in my bed clutching a sick bowl and covered in chicken pox. They started yesterday, her teacher training day.

How old is she? If she feels up to it, could she make paper chains to decorate her room and give her something festive to do?

It's tough when they're ill at Christmas - make sure you get in everything you might need - calamine lotion is brilliant for itching, as are antihistamines - before everything is closed for Christmas.

I hope she feels better by the big day!

She is 6. We have calamine cream. The pharmasist reckons it is better than the lotion.

She is still sleeping. I bought her noodles and beansprouts and prawns in gravy (at her request, when she said she no longer felt sick and wanted a treat) but she is too ill to eat them. She said she is saving them for after her sleep.

I gave my DD Piriton when she had chicken pox, it stopped the itching. I hope your little one is feeling better soon, bless her.

Poor thing. Hopefully she will be over the worst in a couple of days and be up and around by christmas.

Oats tied in a sock in the bath is also good to help stop itching.

ShinyAndNew · 19/12/2009 15:26

My sister uses oats for her ds' excema and we have those in. I might try that later with her.

Hopefully she will be better by xmas. But dd2 has not had chicken pox yet, so no doubt she will be ill soon.
